WRITING A TECHNICAL REPORT USING NON-TECHNICAL LANGUAGE

 

As a student and professional, you must communicate your specialized understanding and expertise with others who may not share your training, background, or expertise. Hence, it is essential to use language that a common man can easily understand. Avoid jargons and terminology that is specific to your field. You may be ah engineer presenting a report to the Chief Executive of the company. Keep your purpose in mind, the CE must understand the report to draw any conclusions from it. Rule of the thumb is to use simple clear and concise language using concrete data.

 

Much information will be communicated to your audience through technical reports. The ability to produce clear, concise, and useful reports will ensure that information you have to share will be understood. Hence it is important to organize your writing in a manner that is logical and serves the purpose of the report.
