PRESSURE IN LIQUIDS

Pressure:

The perpendicular force acting per unit area of a surface is called Pressure.

Mathematically:

Pressure = Force / Area

‘or’

P = F / A

Units of pressure:

N/m2 or Pascal (in S.I. system)

Cm of Hg

Mm of Hg or Torr.

PRESSURE IN LIQUIDS

The pressure at any point in a liquid depends on the density and the depth in the liquid.

Consider a liquid of density “p”.

We know that,

Density = mass / volume

p = m / V

but, (area) (height) = volume,

i.e Ah = V

therefore,
