MOTION UNDER GRAVITY:
Motion due to force of attraction of earth is called free fall motion or motion under gravity.
Galileo, an Italian scientist dropped several bodies simultaneously from the famous learning Tower of Pisa. He observed that all of them, whether light or heavy reached the ground at the same time. He proved against prevailing ideas that all the bodies fall to the ground with the same acceleration. The acceleration of freely falling bodies is called acceleration due to gravity and it is denoted by ‘g’, its value is 9.8 m/s2 or 10 m/s2.
