Q. HOW ARE THE HUMAN ACTIVITIES INFLUENCED BY CLIMATE? EXPLAIN.
DISCUSS THE MUTUAL RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN CLIMATE AND HUMAN ACTIVITIES. OR U ECONOMIC ACTIVITIES OF MAN ARE CLOSELY RELATED TO THE CLIMATE. ASSESS THE VALIDITY OF THE STATEMENT.
Climate is the most important factor of environment therefore; it influences the human economic activities deeply. The influences of climate on agriculture are very prominent. It is decided by the climate that how much area of a particular country can be brought under cultivation.
Agriculture is not possible in extremely hot or cold countries. It is the reason that agricultural activities can’t be carried in the deserts or on North or South poles which remain covered ice for the whole of the year. Even in the fertile regions, ills decided by the climate that which areas are suitable for the cultivation of wheat and what crop should be grown in which area? As the high temperature and rainfall is maintained in the areas on Equator, they are best for the cultivation of rubber and rice. Rice Is grown in the regions of monsoon in Asia where it rains during summer and the cold season goes dry because the same climate suits highly for the cultivation of rice. Apart from it, climate also plays important and decisive role for the different crops. For the cultivation of maize in America, the areas are highly suitable where it rains less than 8 inches in July and August.
Climate, as compared to agriculture, does not influence the industry so much. There was the period when the moist climate was required for the development of textile industry but now it is not the situation because the required environment (climate) can be created through artificial methods. Similarly, for establishing flour mills or the industry of photography, glittering sun shine was required but now the required light can be created in the studios by artificial devices. This is the reason that the countries where the weather remains cloudy for the whole of the year are developed in the industry of photography.
The role of climate becomes more important and special when the means of transport and communication are to be provided across the rivers or ocean. Laying rail tracks and construction of the roads in the mountainous regions is extremely difficult. Similarly, the mountainous slopes are also not suitable for this purpose. The vegetation excessively grown on the slopes of mountains, for this purpose, are also a kind of impediment. Climate is also very important for air transport. Fast blowing winds and frost covered environment can’t be suitable for air traffic. This is the reason that study of weather and forecasting it is of paramount importance for air ways.
Climate has also been a very important factor in determining the human health and working efficiency of labour. The people living in the moist climate are generally lethargic and leisure loving but the people of warm and moist climate is intelligent, alert and hard working because less moisture and lower temperature highly suits for human health and working efficiency. Unfavorable climate causes insufficient food and diseases and indirectly affects human economic activities.
